Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is a state of inense physical and mental relaxation where the subject, although aware of immediate reality, experiences a sense of detachment from it. The focus of attention is usually internal and narrower than when fully alert. In the hypnotic state the frequently unhelpful conscious mind is less likely to interefere, enabling the subconsious mind to become more attentive and receptive to therapy in the form of suggestions and imagery. In this way the mind can be positively influenced allowing work on areas, which in the ordinary waking state would usually be out of conscious control. Therapy experienced in the hypnotic state is known as hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is an approved modality of treatment by the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association.
